Another Weekend Double for Woodpark Stud

02 May Another Weekend Double for Woodpark Stud

It was yet another weekend double for Woodpark Stud capped by Olmeto saluting at Bathurst for the stable on Sunday under Jean Van Overmeire. See You In Spring, who was bred on the farm and sold at the Inglis Ready2Race Sale, made it two from two to kick off her career winning at Listed level on Saturday.

The flashy Siyouni filly, See You In Spring, continued the perfect start to her career winning the Listed Without Fear Stakes at Morphettville on one of the State’s feature race days.

Just like on debut where she ran to the post swishing her tail she was fast away again and didn’t see a horse pass her as she was able to display a turn of foot when it appeared she would be challenged.

“She’s actually a little speed demon, isn’t she? She gets that little tail going like a propeller and she’s off and gone,” trainer Natalie Young said after the race.

“She was bought as a ready to run at Inglis last year and I said look at the breeding, she is out of a Shamardal mare and by Siyouni and he stands for $160k.

“She was a great little buy and she has just got the best attitude ever so it’s really nice.”

See You In Spring is raced by First Light Racing who purchased her alongside agent Paul Willetts and trainer’s Trent Busuttin and Nat Young for $85,000 at the 2020 Inglis Ready2Race Sale from Will Forrester’s Highlands Racing & Bloodstock draft.

See You In Spring’s dam Spring Colours has a yearling colt by Astern and a weanling filly by Aylmerton, who is also by Siyouni, making the filly a very close relation to this exciting filly.

Olmeto then capped the weekend off with a victory at Bathurst to break his maiden status. Bred by Woodpark and trained on the farm by Jean Dubois, he carries those now-familiar silks of navy with light blue hooped sleeves and light blue cap.

Olmeto is the first foal out of Orion Love who was the first to wear those silks here in Australia when trained by Chris Waller. The four-year-old gelded son of Snitzel has been knocking the door down for some time and found the race run to suit today as he sat just behind the leader.

Van Overmeire urged his mount forward at the turn and both horse and rider toughed it out to the line as the swoopers came late.

“He has been close so many times and I’m glad that today was his day,” said assistant trainer Pierre Dubois who was on course.

“It was a very positive ride from JVO and I believe that made the difference and he lifted the horse right through to the line.

His last start was a forget run as it just doesn’t suit him to be race behind but he was more forward today and hopefully, this is the start of a few wins this prep and into the future.”

Four of Jean Dubois’ five recent winner’s have been ridden by his namesake in Van Overmeire as the pair continue to build their excellent association.
